Hearing the Indigenous voices of 1997

This video features images, names and voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, who have since passed.

Prepared for the congregations of the Lutheran Church of Australia (LCA) and the 1997 LCA Synod, Out of the Shadows was commissioned with the approval of the church by Dr Lance Steicke, President of the LCA at that time.

With the support of the Far North Queensland Lutheran Mission Committee, Finke River Mission and the Committee for Aboriginal Ministry in SA, this video shares some of the LCA’s initiatives during the 1990s to hear and listen to the ‘Indigenous voice’, recognising at that time the importance of walking together as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and other Australians in the ministry of the church.

Many individuals from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across Australia who identify as Lutherans share their stories.
